The Brief
EURO-MOULDERS and EUROPUR approached us to create an engaging animation that would demonstrate the widespread use of polyurethane in the automotive industry. The aim was to show the material’s crucial role in everything from seating comfort to safety and fuel efficiency, while making the information visually appealing and easily digestible for a wide range of audiences. The final video would be used across various digital platforms to inform and educate industry stakeholders, manufacturers, and the general public.
The Approach
To visualise the many applications that polyurethane foam has in the car industry, it made sense to centre the video around a car and highlight the different components of the vehicle – seats, dashboards, bumpers, and more – in which polyurethane foam is used. Our strategy was to create a seamless narrative using a mix of scriptwriting, dynamic visuals and sound to showcase how polyurethane enhances the driving experience.
Script Development: we worked with the clients to develop a concise yet informative script that would be easy to follow for viewers with various levels of technical understanding. The focus was on emphasising polyurethane’s benefits: comfort, safety, and fuel efficiency.
Comfort and Support: the animation begins by demonstrating how polyurethane enhances comfort inside the car. We include a visual of the key statistic that 9 out of 10 car seats are made with PU foam. A character is shown sitting in the seat, with the animation illustrating how the material contours to the body, providing optimal comfort.
Thermal and Sound Insulation: to convey polyurethane’s role in maintaining a stable internal temperature, we see the car driving through different weather conditions – hot summers and cold winters – showing how polyurethane insulation in door panels and dashboards helps maintain the vehicle’s efficiency. We also illustrate its role in sound absorption by portraying a quieter cabin amidst a noisy traffic environment.
Safety in Collisions: in order to showcase PU foam’s safety enhancing properties, bumpers and airbags are highlighted and the car drives off screen to reveal an icon for absorbing impacts.
Fuel Efficiency: finally, the animation demonstrates how polyurethane reduces vehicle weight, thus improving fuel efficiency. We see car components made of polyurethane, followed by an animation of the car becoming lighter, with a fuel gauge showing enhanced efficiency.
The Result
The final animation is visually engaging and clearly communicates the multiple benefits of polyurethane in automobiles in a viewer-friendly way that is accessible to a broad audience.
