ecoDa
The Brief
ecoDa, the European Voice of Directors, sought to create a video that clearly explained the role of the board of directors and the diversity of corporate governance models across the EU. The objective was to provide an informative and accessible overview for new MEPs arriving in Brussels following the 2024 EU elections, with a particular focus on highlighting the importance of the unique regulatory frameworks that exist across different member states. The video was to be used as an introduction to corporate governance during discussions with policymakers and for educational purposes on ecoDa’s platforms, and those of their members across the continent.
The Approach
We created an engaging and informative video, breaking down the complex dynamics of decision-making within companies. The video explained the roles of shareholders, boards, and management, emphasising the distinction between their responsibilities. The content explored the different classifications of directors, including Executive, Non-Executive, and Independent Non-Executive Directors, and discussed how board compositions vary depending on the member state’s legal framework.
Additionally, the video compared the EU’s two primary governance models: the one-tier system, used in countries like Finland and Sweden, and the two-tier system, common in Germany and Poland. Through clear visuals and simple language, the video highlighted the regulatory differences and stressed the need for a flexible legislative approach to accommodate the variety of governance structures across Europe.
The Result
The video effectively communicates the complexities of corporate governance in an easy-to-digest format, serving as a valuable tool for policymakers, board members, and corporate leaders across Europe. The video will be useful for years to come and is shared across ecoDa’s website and social media platforms, as well as those of their members, and has been translated into several different languages.
