Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Trust

The Brief

Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Trust consulted their teenage patients on how they would like to receive key information about the transition from paediatric to adult care. The answer was through short, easy-to-understand animated videos, and so they reached out to us to put this into practice.

The brief for these animations was to create short, shareable content designed for mobile viewing.

The Approach

We worked with clinicians in both the Paediatric Dental and Paediatric Cardiology departments at Birmingham to draft a series of 6 short, snappy scripts to be delivered by both voice over and on-screen text.

We selected a teenage male voice to deliver the scripts, bringing an age appropriate and relatable feel to the messaging, and supported this with subtitles for those listening without sound.

The visual style for these animations is big and bold, ideally suited to social platforms and guaranteed to grab attention. To keep the young audience engaged to the end, we made sure that the animation was slick and pacey, with constant action throughout.

Result

The animations are currently being used on screens in the waiting rooms of the Cardiology OutPatients Department at Birmingham, and they are shared via QR codes with patients and their families so they can watch on their handheld devices. In time the videos will also be live on the Trust website as well.
